Sony releases some major upgrades for 15 of the most popular games on PlayStation 5. As of this week, the PlayStation brand house has announced that it will finally begin rolling out new support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for PS5 consoles around the world. This feature is a feature that many PS5 owners have been asking for for some time. To keep up with VRR that’s finally being added to Sony’s next-gen console, though, the publisher has also revealed that 15 titles, in particular, will now be able to support the feature.
If you’re still confused about what VRR is in the first place, it’s basically something only select TVs and monitors offer, meaning not everyone will be able to take advantage of using it on the PS5. However, those who can use VRR will see notable performance improvements for a number of games.
“On HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TVs and computer monitors, VRR dynamically synchronizes the screen refresh rate with the PS5 console’s graphic output. This enhances the visual performance of PS5 games by reducing or eliminating visual effects, such as frame speed issues and screen tearing,” he explained. Sony Vice President Hideaki Nishino in a recent post about PlayStation Blog. Gameplay in many PS5 titles feels smoother as scenes are rendered smoothly, graphics look sharper, and input lag is reduced. Previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for VRR with a game patch and future games may include support for VRR at launch.”
At the time of this writing, several updates for these respective games have already started to be rolled out before VRR became widely available on PS5. For example, Insomniac Games pushed three updates earlier this week to add VRR support for Marvel’s Spider-Man RemasteredAnd Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesAnd Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Other publishers have started releasing these same updates as well, which means you can start downloading them at this time.
